Cozumel Dive Reports

I’ve dove for 3 days (Tues, Wed, Thurs) and haven’t posted any dive reports…. Here is a quick catchup report!

Tuesday we dove the end of Palancar, with hopes to see a group of Caribbean Reef Sharks.  Our hopes were rewarded with seeing a group of 7, and several others patrolling outside of the group.   Here is a photo that Beth took of the sharks.  (She didn’t get too close, so they look more like shadows…)

Reef Sharks

Our Second dive on Tuesday was at Punta Tunich.  We saw several turtles, and a green Moray Eel.  It was a nice dive.

Wednesday we dove at Santa Rosa Wall and Chankanaab Bolones.

Here are a few photos from Wednesday–

I will post a separate report for today’s dives with some video in a bit.

First Beer of the Year

Made it to the airport, and through security. We are officially starting vacation and scuttling the diet for the duration of our trip. Here is Beth enjoying her first beer of 2013! Dinner? Chili cheese fries and Mac and cheese flatbread.

1 killed, 1 injured as car slams into motorcycle in Skagit Co. (Washington State)

This sucks.  Be careful out there people.

From Komo News

SEDRO-WOOLLEY, Wash. – A car driven by a suspected drunk driver slammed into a motorcycle with two people aboard it Saturday evening on a rural road outside Sedro-Woolley, injuring the motorcyclist and killing the passenger who was riding with him.

State troopers responded to the scene, on Cook Road east of Collins Road, at about 5:45 p.m. after receiving a report of a serious crash.

The motorcyclist, Christopher T. Mask, 48, and his passenger, Kathleen L. Mask, 55, both of Sedro-Woolley, were taken to Skagit Valley Hospital. Kathleen Mask died from her injuries at the hospital.

A preliminary investigation found that a 2001 Honda Accord driven by John R. Albrecht, 76, of Sedro-Woolley was heading east on Cook Road.

At the same time, the Masks’ 2012 Harley-Davidson motorcycle was stopped in the eastbound lane of Cook Road, waiting to make a left turn.

The Honda failed to stop and crashed into the rear of the motorcycle, the State Patrol reported.

Albrecht was not injured. He was booked into Skagit County Jail for investigation of vehicular homicide and vehicular assault.

Alcohol or drugs were believed to be a factor in the crash.

The projects demand significant scientific and practical responsibilities from participants, however, the demands are well within the capabilities of most students, and whilst being challenging, are enjoyable and exciting. As part of this program, interns can expect to be important members of a focused and dedicated research institute and partake in ground breaking research. It is an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to exciting marine research, as well as experience the frustrations, the highs and the lows, and the achievements associated with ambitious and challenging marine research in Africa.
