Friday night dinner at Kinta

Last night we had a great dinner at one of our favorite spots on the island, Kinta.  We were able to sit outside in their garden, and enjoy the breeze.  We brought a bottle of Trust Syrah from Washington with us, and enjoyed it with the food.

I ordered the La Olla Negra (Black Bean Cumin soup with crispy tortilla, Mexican cheese and Avocado) and the Porky Pasilla (Slow roasted Pork tenderloin with Chile Pasilla and Crimini mushroom demiglaze toasted Almonds, Fig marmalade and mashed potatoes)  Beth ordered the Vera Cruz salad, and Kamaron Adobado (Grilled Shrimp, marinated in Achiote with caramelized Pineapple salsa and Cilantro rice),  Joyce had the Fish Tacos and Vera Cruz salad.  Everyone seemed to enjoy what they ate!

2/17 Cozumel Dives

Today was the perfect day to splash in and get our dive groove back on.  We ran into an old friend on the boat that consistently is doing his last dive day here in Cozumel, as we are doing our first. Also on the boat with us was a couple from one of the cruise ships in town.  It was her second open water dive, so we chose to go somewhere that wouldn’t be too deep, or with too much current. First dive was at Palancar Gardens, and our second dive was at Punta Tunich.  Both were fun with good visibility and light current.  Here are a few stills from the video that I shot today.  Can you see the Frog Fish?  I almost didn’t!!!!

1st dives today!

We are so excited to be back in Cozumel!  We used the afternoon yesterday to get settled, check/assemble dive gear, and get all of our batteries charged.  We will be diving with Blue Magic Scuba today, and it looks like it will be a beautiful day to dive.  This AM we have clear skies and calm water.  Forecast is for partly cloudy skies, and 82 F.

Here is a picture from the condo this morning.  Yeah, they drained the pool last night to clean it.  It should be full again today!

Cozumel Trip 2011. Places I plan to eat.

One of the things I love about Cozumel is the great food you can find on the island. Here is a list of places I plan to stuff my face like a total fatty, but the list far from complete:

Kinta

A favorite with locals, Kinta’s offers interesting twists on local Yucatecan cuisine plus lots of varieties of seafood. Try a fish fillet in one of their innovative sauces. This is also a small place but it has a lovely backyard garden. Everything on the menu here is worth trying so you will probably want to go back more than once.

This place has recently caught on with tourists and locals so reservations are suggested or else go early — between 6 PM and 7 PM — at busy times of the year. Located on Avenida 5 between Calle 2 and Calle 4 — so 1/2 block north of the pedestrian only plaza.

Danube

New kid on the block, Danube is thrilling foreigners who live on the island full time with a deliciouly prepared menu with a distinctly European flair. Only place on the island for dishes like weiner schnitzle, falafel, coq au vin and the like plus an excellent selection of seafood dishes. 2 Culinary Inst of America chefs are having fun in the kitchen. And we’re enjoying things out front. Nice terrace or eat in the AC. Elevator. Located directly across the road from the Puerta Maya cruiseship pier. 4 story red and white building called “i95″. Restaurant at the top.
